Just A Few Thanksgiving Activities and Suggestions

I found these neat Thanksgiving printables at The Crafty Classroom.

I printed them out and can’t wait to use them this Thursday for our Thanksgiving table. It would be good to laminate them, but my laminator is still in a box. I’m going to tape the place mats to our old place mats that are shaped like turkeys.

The place cards have a conversation starting question or task for them to do, such as “Tell a silly story about yourself.” or “What are you thankful for?”.

We are getting pretty excited about Thanksgiving around here.

We have read “‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving”.

It was really funny. We all enjoyed it.

We also read “Thanksgiving at the Tappletons”.

It was also really funny.

A friend from church took me grocery shopping with my list of EVERYTHING we need for Thanksgiving dinner, so we are ready to start cooking and baking.

She is a blessed woman of God!

God is so good to us. We are very thankful.

Turkey Cookies – Not Made from Turkey! – Easy to Make, Nothing to Bake

Thanksgiving--Day-2011-008

We are planning to make these tomorrow!

What fun!

Even the older kids still like to make these – and eat them.

Thanksgiving Day 2010 032

All you need to make them is:

Fudge Stripe Cookies

Bon Bons

Chocolate chips

Candy Corn

How to put them together:

1. We melt the chocolate chips to use as glue. We glue the bon bons (the body of the turkey) to the Fudge Stripe cookies with the stripes going up and down so they look like feathers.

2. Then we glue the candy corn to the front of the bon bon to look like the head of the turkey.

3. Then we use toothpicks to dot eyes on the top of the candy corn with the melted chocolate chips.

4. Then we set them up together to make it look like we have a whole flock of turkeys!

Very easy to make and they taste delicious. No baking necessary!

Holy Given: Iris Ministries

This is my favorite ministry. I love Iris Ministries and Heidi Baker. They are in Mozambique, and they take children off the streets and provide for their physical needs and teach them about Jesus and lead them into a personal relationship with Him. They have intense, intimate times of worship, and the children get to know Jesus for themselves. They operate in power and signs and wonders. They are all about the LOVE OF JESUS.

Stop Common Core State Standards

This video shows how Common Core State Standards hurt the schools, teachers, students and ultimately homeschoolers. It talks about its origins and who wrote and funded the standards. You may be surprised to discover that these standards were not written by educators and were not initiated by states but by private groups. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has spent over a million dollars to help create and propagate the standards. Companies such as Microsoft will more than recover the money they’ve invested through software, technology, and curriculum that this new education paradigm requires.

Here’s the 2nd video in the series.
