For Your Health:

I have been trying to get healthier. I’m doing several different things to work on my physical fitness and my mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being. These are things that I’ve been able to stick with because of great coaches!

For the physical fitness, I’m doing Praise Moves with Janita Walker. It’s like Yoga, but it’s not. The moves we make are based on Hebrew letters, and we recite Scripture the whole time we’re doing the moves. We usually work our way through a passage of Scripture during our sessions. It is an intense workout. I do a lot of sweating each time! But it’s not aerobics or anything high-impact. It’s just stretching in ways that you may not have ever stretched before. That’s how it was for me. I feel a lot stronger since I’ve been doing it for about a year. I have better balance, too. If you want to join us, reply to this email, and I’ll send you her contact information.

I have a coach for my mental, emotional, and spiritual growth. Her name is Carrie Rebecca Jones. She has training in IBRT (Integrated Bioenergetic Restoration Therapy), and she studies many techniques to help people get free of past traumas and trapped emotions.

She describes what she does here:

“I am a trauma informed transformational coach.

Quantum Bioenergetic release of trapped emotions,

restructuring of emotional energy with core truths,

creating new structures of belief with higher vibrational emotions

enabling your entire being to resonate as a life you love, and loving the life you live, and living the life you love while experiencing  joy, peace, love, abundance, and health.

I incorporate other tools such as heart brain coherence, Sozo, Courts of Heaven, Magnetic Mind Superconscious Healing and Transformation, EFT (Emotional freedom technique – tapping to move emotional energy), and Emotion Codes.”

Here is her website. Check it out and book a session with her to help you get beyond fear and trauma from the past and experience God’s love for you in a way that you never have before. Carrie’s heart and demeanor is so loving and gentle that you feel the Father’s love through her.

Have you tried deep breathing and meditation? This is not a Yoga or New Age thing. This is a practice that has lots of scientific evidence that shows that it has amazing health benefits.

Here are some YouTube videos by Carrie Rebecca that you can use to help you meditate and do some deep breathing to get more oxygen to your brain and help to calm and center yourself. This is all Christ-centered and based on Scripture. Her YouTube channel is called Organic Life by Divine Design.

Here’s a free tip: For a detox bath for parasites, Carrie recommends using Hydrogen Peroxide, Borax, Baking Soda, Epsom Salt, and Vinegar. If you want to know the amounts, let me know, and I’ll find out from her and send it to you.

Here’s to making changes that will bring transformation to every part of our lives – starting now!

Love,

Penney Douglas, B. S. in Elem. Ed.

Hi, Safe Haven Family!

This is the Homeschool and Health Tips edition of Safe Haven Newsletter!

First, I wanted to share with you a homeschool curriculum creator that I have liked for a VERY long time. Valerie McClintick at Crafty Classroom makes the cutest, most innovative curriculum for Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary that I have ever seen. Check out her amazing Spelling resources here and look for the coupon that’s good until Aug. 31. You’ll need to act fast!

Another curriculum creator/homeschooler I have followed for a VERY long time is Carisa at 1plus1plus1equals1.net. She is a former Montessori Kindergarten teacher who became a homeschool mom, then started a blog and went viral with her curriculum that she created for her own children. It is not your run-of-the-mill Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary curriculum. It lets your children play, imagine, and create as they’re learning basic skills. She has free printables and some you can buy. Make sure you scroll all the way down so you can find the free ones. And sign up on her site so you can have freebies sent to you.

~ I’m not an affiliate for either of these curriculum creators, but I just really want you guys to know about them!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lately, people are becoming more concerned about their health, especially the health of our children. I want to tell you about a few products that you can make yourself that will be much safer for your children than the stuff they sell in stores.
I have heard from Dr. Judy Mikovits that we should never use sunscreen. But nobody wants to get a sunburn, right? Here’s something you can make yourself that will be much better for you and your children.
Natural Sunscreen
1/4 c shea butter
1/4 c zinc oxide
1/4 c coconut oil
Take 1/4 c of these combined oils
and Add a splash of each of these:
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Avocado Oil
Carrot Seed Oil
Red Raspberry Seed Oil
Jojoba Oil
Any essential oil for fragrance (ie. lavender)
Vitamin E
Heat until completely mixed. It will thicken as it cools.
Reapply every hour in direct sun. Waterproof.
Here’s a video about it.
If you don’t want to go to the trouble of making it yourself, you can find it here:
Shay’s Naturals sunscreen
Another site that has Natural products like sunscreen and repellent is Creative in SC. I can get to the site on my phone, but not on my computer.
~ Here’s a natural bug repellent that I have made myself, and my husband, the mosquito magnet, says it really works.
All you have to do is mix these essential oils with olive oil and you will make a mosquito repellent that works better than commercial insect repellents.
Recipe :
• 2 f oz Extra virgin olive oil
• 10 drops of lemongrass oil
• 8 drops of eucalyptus
• 5 drops of lavender
The mixture works as a great bug repellent as well as a few benefits for the skin.
Olive oil is one of the best things to use to make your own repellent because it’s also an organic insecticide.
One last health tip that I think is very exciting involves hydrogen peroxide.
HYDROGEN PEROXIDE: H202 has the extra Oxygen molecule that cancer can’t stand. Put it on a cotton ball, or wash cloth for larger areas and rub all over skin. 3x/day, especially when you get out of the bath & shower, as your pores are open and more apt to getting it into the bloodstream. The skin absorbs the HP, and kills the CA cells almost immediately.
The article I took this from has more information about dealing with cancer. If you would like to see the whole article, let me know, and I can send you the link.
Oh, one more tip!
Drink lemon water. Drink it in the morning and before bedtime on an empty stomach. This kills viruses, pathogens, the toxic bacteria, and helps rid the body of toxins while alkalizing the blood and liquids within our system. We need these electrolytes to help co-facilitate further healing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Let me know if you like these tips and want more in future issues of Safe Haven Newsletter.

Also let me know if you have any prayer requests. I know some are dealing with family issues, some with health issues, and others with anxiety, actually too many issues to mention; but I also know that God is bigger than any problem, no matter how impossible it seems. I’ve got one of those myself right now that I’m trusting God to take care of.

It’s  hard, but we have to hold onto our faith no matter how devastating or unfair or impossible our situation seems.

Hi Safe Haven Family!

We are coming into September with some threatening clouds of “covid restrictions” hanging over our heads. What a coincidence as we go into an election cycle again, and a certain group of people feel the need to “fortify” an election through mail-in ballots (thousands of them with questionable addresses and signatures!)

I see that at least one Atlanta college is already requiring masks and other things.

And at least one school district in Kentucky is closing in-person classes and moving to online classes.

Let’s unite and stand together and not comply with the powers-that-be when they try to control and manipulate the whole world. They are stealing our freedom little by little.

There are more of us than there are of them. If we all stand up and refuse to comply, they can’t arrest all of us!

This isn’t about a virus. It’s about stealing an election and seeing how far they can go, how much control we will let them have.

One man is standing in their way. So they indicted President Trump a 4th time. That means they did this:

  1. To accuse of wrongdoing or criticize severely. From The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.

That’s the definition of indict.

It’s just an accusation and criticism.

President Trump doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. The more they “trump-up” charges against him, the more popular he becomes and the stronger he is in the polls.

Fire, Fire Everywhere

Let’s talk about the “wildfires” of Maui. If you haven’t noticed, I use quotation marks when I don’t believe things are as they say they are.

They were not caused by “climate change”.

I have seen way too many videos showing cars that are melted while the trees around them are untouched. I’ve seen eyewitnesses telling about how the police blocked the way for all of the people in cars that tried to evacuate by Front Street where they were told to go. They were lined up there with no way to escape because the police were blocking the way. I’m sure the police were “just following orders”.

The fires were probably started deliberately by directed energy weapons or by helicopters shooting fire.

There are so many questionable things about the Maui incident:

  • Space Force has a base there.
  • Oprah has a compound there.
  • Hawaii governor is looking to “acquire land” that was destroyed.
  • Media Free Zone around Maui
  • No aid allowed to get in to the people
  • The children were let out of school while parents were still at work
  • The alarm system didn’t work
  • Fire hydrants were dry
  • The power lines were shut off – the ones that supposedly started all the fires
  • Things that were blue were unaffected by the fires. Celebrities roofs were painted blue.
  • There has been talk of turning Maui into a smart island
  • Over 2000 children are missing from the Maui schools in the fire zone.

There were also out-of-control “wildfires” in Argentina; Naxos, Greece; West Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada; and all over Canada; Washington state; Louisiana; Montana; and all over the world. This is not caused by climate change.

This is how they are causing climate change:

It involves lots of complex underground machinery stationed all over the world, satellites, thousands of Chemtrail dispersing planes and lots of fire shooting helicopters.

How many coincidences before it’s mathematically impossible.

This is all happening for a reason. We as a society are being put through the fire. We are being refined by fire.

In 2020 I wrote a book about our Journey of Fire called Refined By Fire. I wrote about a period of my life when everything went wrong. It was frightening and confusing, but God was with me through the whole ordeal. He used it to change me and galvanize my faith. I would never wish it on anybody, but I’m glad I went through it. I’m glad it’s over, too!

Currently I’m in the middle of another journey of fire, but this time I’m more aware of what’s happening. I have hope, and that is holding the door open until my faith becomes sight.

One of my favorite teachers has been talking about the baptism of fireWanda Alger has been learning, like I did, that we have to go through a baptism of fire if we want all that God has for us. Here’s what she says:

YOUR WORDS ARE MEANT TO CARRY FIRE!

Knowledge of the enemy’s plans without the power to defeat him is useless. God is looking for a people who not only know the truth about the devil’s schemes but carry the fire of God to burn up his plans! This can only come when we each embrace the purifying fire in our own lives. We do not carry the fire until we go through it.

The fires God sends are to purify our hearts and sanctify our cause. The enemy seeks to pull us into fires of his own making, but they only serve to destroy our faith and weaken our call. Know the difference!

The Lord has been leading His people through testing fires in order to purify and prove the worth of our words. Is He God or is He not? Is He faithful to keep His promise or is He not? Is His goodness and power stronger than the fires of affliction, able to OVERTURN THE DEATH SENTENCE THE ENEMY HAS WAGED AGAINST US? These claims must surely be tested, for our declarations are meant to carry the weight of heaven with fire.

“They have lied about the LORD; they said, ‘He will do nothing! No harm will come to us; we will never see sword or famine. The prophets are but wind and the word is not in them; so let what they say be done to them.’ Therefore this is what the LORD God Almighty says: ‘Because the people have spoken these words, I will make my words in your mouth a fire and these people the wood it consumes.’” (Jeremiah 5:12-14 ESV)

Faith is being sharpened and strengthened in those who have determined to pass through the flames undeterred. The enemy would have you fear his fires and back away from the challenge. But the Lord is calling us to GO THROUGH!

“Pass through! Pass through the fires that are purifying your hearts and perfecting your declarations! Do not acquiesce to the pressure and do not conform to your adversaries. My consuming fire begins in the hearts of those who trust in My absolute rule in the affairs of men and My absolute authority over the devil’s work. YOU ARE MY VESSELS OF RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT AGAINST THE ENEMY’S TORMENT! But it is only with fire from the altar of surrender that My authority can work through you.”

“Truth can set you free, but My fire within will annihilate your enemies! Do not yield to the fires of your foes or the fears of your flesh. That which is eternal and lasting will come through the flames as gold and burnished bronze. Those who pass through My fire will become unyielding to My enemies and fearless in the fray. Their pursuit will be holy and their words will burn with fury from My throne.”

Isaiah 43:1,2

But now thus says the Lord,

he who created you, O Jacob,

he who formed you, O Israel:

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name, you are mine.

2  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;

when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,

and the flame shall not consume you.

I have a channel on Telegram called “Shalom in Our Home” that is filled with posts about what is happening with our children.

https://t.me/+WutPN8F36URkMTEx  – My “Shalom in our Home” channel on Telegram

I also have a channel called “Died Suddenly” with posts about athletes and other young people and healthy people who have died suddenly since the v a x  rolled out.

I thought this verse was very appropriate for the times we’re living in:

“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

(1 Peter 4: 7-11)

~~~~~~~ Homeschool Corner~~~~~~~
Have you ever thought about the learning process?
John Holt has thought about it a lot. He said, “Learning is not the product of teaching. Learning is the product of the activity of learners.”
There is a difference between teaching and learning. We can lead our kids to knowledge, but we can’t make them think. That is up to them.
Self-education is really all there is. So in your homeschool, make sure that you are giving your children plenty of time to think. You may ask questions to encourage further thinking.
But give them time to think deeply about the answers to those questions.
This is a missing element in the school-style of education. The students are given all of the information that the teacher wants them to spew forth on the exam, but real learning doesn’t occur, because the time to reflect, process, and meditate is not given to the students. That process is not even addressed or encouraged in most classrooms. Students are told that they have to memorize certain facts that will be covered on the test, and then they are evaluated on how well they memorized all of those facts.
I wrote a blog post about self-education HERE.
But we can make knowledge more attractive and easily accessible by the way we set up our home and provide learning materials that are easy for them to get to.
Speaking of making it easy for our kids to learn, what about Math?
If you are struggling with finding a curriculum that you like for Math, join the club! I have tried many different curricula for Math. With the little ones, I liked to use lots of manipulatives and used real life reasons for using math.
The ones that seemed to work best for us were CTC Math and Teaching Textbooks. We are about to try Learn Math Fast, but we haven’t started yet.
If you want to do Math using living books in a more Charlotte Mason way, check out Livingmath.net.
I am in the process of publishing a new book called “Dear Struggling Homeschool Mom, I See You”. If you or someone you know is in the trenches of homeschooling, this will be a very encouraging read for them. In it, I cover very practical topics like “How Do You Get it All Done?”, “How Do I Get My Kids to Listen?”, “How Do I Get My Kids to Get Along?”, and many more. It is full of tips, advice, resources, and ideas that will make your life easier and less stressful. I also share some stories from my own homeschool journey which has lasted 27 years so far. It will be published VERY soon. I’ll let you know when it’s available!
Hope and Peace,
Some people think of homeschooling as something that is only for young children, and then at some point you need to put them in “school”.
I disagree. I think the best thing we can do for our kids is to homeschool them all the way through high school.
If you desire to keep that warm, close relationship that you’ve been building with your teen instead of sending him or her away just because you’re afraid you can’t do a good job of covering the high school years, I’ve got good news for you. It’s not hard to homeschool high school. By the time they’re in high school, they can do everything independently. All you have to do is find out what they’re interested in and let them major in that. You can find curriculum for the basic subjects like English, Math, Science, and Social Studies and let them work through it on their own.
Just think about what high school was like for you. Did the teachers really teach you by their lectures, or did you learn by reading the books? Or did you really learn at all? Or did you just do whatever you had to do to pass the tests and make good grades.
Homeschooling your child through high school is your best chance to let them learn what they really need to learn in life. And to keep them from losing all of the values and ideals you worked so hard to instill in them. To me, putting them in school is tantamount to undoing all the work you did up to that point. That’s how I feel about it.
So to help you feel more confident about homeschooling them through high school, I’ll give you a few tips.
  1. Making a transcript is not hard. I have made transcripts for many people. I have a template I use that makes it very easy.
  2. You don’t even have to keep grades in the different subjects unless you want to. I estimate grades for the transcript based on the student’s effort and their interest in the subject. The grades given by teachers in schools are often subjective and don’t always reflect the level of knowledge of the student. You may need to think differently about grades and how important they really are. Give your student a grade that reflects how well they learned the subject, not how well they did on tests.
  3. Let your teen help plan what they want to study. Give them the chance to take the reins and make their education their own. This is their education, not yours. All you need to do is facilitate. Help them get whatever supplies, courses, or opportunities they need to dig deeper into the things that they are interested in and may want to do as a future career. You can even help them with hobbies they enjoy and give them time to enjoy them.
  4. There are ways to get your kids into sports if they are great athletes, and it means a lot to them. There are some schools that allow homeschoolers to play, some Christian schools. You just have to research and find a way to make it happen. It may not be easy, but God will guide you and help you find everything you need for your children.
  5. They can get a job, and their employers will love them, because they are available at times other students are not available to work.
  6. You can find a group that has a nice graduation ceremony if that’s important to you. Again, just research and find out what’s available in your area.
  7. And you can get a nice diploma for your student. I like to use Homeschooldiploma.com. I have used them many times, and their diplomas look very professional and authentic. You don’t need to feel like you aren’t qualified to give your child a diploma. You are more qualified than the teachers who would have barely known your child and could only assess them based on a few hours in their class. You know your child. You know the time and effort they put into their studies. You know their interests and their hopes and dreams. You are the most qualified to pronounce that they are ready to move on to the next stage of life.
        So I hope this helps you to feel better about your ability to homeschool your child all the way through high school. It may take more work to find some of the things that schools provide, but, in the end, it will be a much better experience for you and for your child.
Here’s the Transcript I like to use.
                            Huge opal at the Houston Museum of Natural Science
Wow! I have been inspired to create lately! I knew an accountability session was coming up in a coaching group I’m in, so I thought I’d better look again at my goals and try to get some of them done. Do you ever do that? Thank goodness for accountability. I saw that I had said I would make a copywork journal for homeschool students. So I opened up Canva and started figuring out how to make a copywork journal. It started flowing, and I worked on it all day and had it finished by the end of the day. It’s here on Amazon.
Then today, I looked at my goals again and saw that I had said I would write a journal to go with one of the books I wrote, the book called “Short, Powerful Prayers for Busy Homeschool Moms”. I put some thought to how I wanted to do it and realized that it’s going to involve just adding lined pages to the prayer book in its original form. Gary can do that for me when we get back to a place where we can set up our desktops in our own home someday.
So then I looked at the next thing on my list and saw another journal – I’m really into making journals right now! I was kind of unclear on what kind of journal I wanted to design. I had seen some journal pages by a Facebook friend, and they inspired me. In fact, I had a great epiphany in the shower about how I wanted to design my next journal. But when I got back to my laptop, I couldn’t remember what it was!
So I just started thinking about any kind of journal I could make. Then I remembered that I had considered making a journal to go along with the book I wrote called, “5 Steps to Becoming a Great Homeschool Parent”. So I just started creating in Canva, and next thing I knew I was writing and writing about why homeschooling is so great, and how we should do it so that it’s a joy and not drudgery by making it a learning adventure for the whole family.
So I finished writing my 5 Steps Journal today. I’ll have Gary finish that up for me, too, and publish it on Amazon. I’m glad I just started writing!
Getting out of that house that had so much pressure hanging over our heads seems to have broken the dam that was holding back my creativity. Or maybe it’s this great Airbnb that we’re staying in. Or maybe just the change of scenery. Maybe it was the trip to the museum…
Whatever it is, I’m thankful for the burst of creativity.
How are you doing? Really. Is homeschooling as good as you thought it would be? Do you feel like your kids are getting the best education they can get? Do you feel like your family is thriving with homeschooling?
If you answered “no” to any of these questions, I have something that will help you.
I have 25 years of experience homeschooling my 10 children. I LOVE homeschooling. I still have another 5 years or so of educating my children at home. And I don’t want it to ever end!
I have graduated 6 students from homeschooling. They all have jobs, and some have started families.
And I’m still homeschooling my 4 youngest children.
So, you might say I’m an expert in homeschooling. I’ve learned how to keep on homeschooling all the way through, with your relationships intact and your nerves unfrayed.
Well, I have written an e-course to help you to relax your homeschool and to free yourself from fear.
This course will help you to gain confidence in your ability to teach your children. Go from overwhelmed to peaceful. From feeling lost to feeling capable. From fearful and insecure to confident.
My dream for you is that you enjoy homeschooling your children. In this course I share techniques and approaches that will help you do that. Here’s a tip: If you let your children know how much you love them and provide resources to help them learn, you will find that the experience is beneficial to the whole family.
Please check out this course, and see if it is what you need to adjust, tweak, or completely overhaul your homeschool routine/method/mindset.
Here is a video that describes the course in more detail.
And this is where you can go to sign up for the course.
Dear Readers,
I have written an e-course for new homeschoolers and for those who just feel like things are not going well with their homeschool – maybe you even feel like throwing in the towel. Don’t do it! Homeschooling is SO worth it.
Or you might just wish you could get some training in Education and figure out why this is so hard.
It doesn’t have to be hard. It can be enjoyable if you understand some basic concepts about Learning and apply them to your Homeschooling.
This e-course called “The Basics of Learning and Homeschooling” will teach you basic ideas about learning theory and how to apply them to your children. There’s much more in this course, like how to choose curriculum, how to help children with learning differences, preserving relationships in your family, especially your marriage, and building a strong family culture.
Check it out here:
1. Start with Living Books
Find some good book lists that contain Classics (because they have stood the test of time), historical fiction, biographies, autobiographies
This is what living books are according to Simply Charlotte Mason:
“Living books are usually written by one person who has a passion for the subject and writes in conversational or narrative style. The books pull you into the subject and involve your emotions, so it’s easy to remember the events and facts. Living books make the subject “come alive.” ”
Some good book lists are found at Read-Aloud Revival, a website for parents who like to read aloud to their children: Honey for a Child’s Heart by Gladys Hunt; Read for the Heart by Sarah Clarkson; Books Children Love by Elizabeth Wilson; and All Through the Ages by Christine Miller. The Sonlight catalog also lists wonderful books as readers and read-alouds that are grouped by grade level and periods of history.
Take your book list with you to the library. Or if you would rather have your own library, you can buy them. If you are studying a certain period in history, find books that have stories that take place during that time. If you are looking for a particular science topic, find a book about it. Or find a book that is told in narrative or story form that explains that topic. There are even living books for math and language arts. Just keep in mind the definition of living books, and you will find wonderful books that will captivate the interest of your children and yourself.
2. Add some narration.
As you are reading to your children or listening to an audiobook together, have one of them tell back what happened in the last chapter. This is narration, a telling back in one’s own words.
I do this in a sneaky way by reading a chapter or two one day. Then the next time we pick up the book to read, I ask one of the children to get us back into the story by reminding us what happened last. This works out very well. The kids usually remember much more than I do. This shows that they were listening. It helps them to remember it even better. And it prepares us for the next part of the story. In the Charlotte Mason method, there are more rules, and you can have older children do written narrations, but I have found my little sneaky method to be natural, easy, and fun for my children.
