Love for Children Like a Normal Parent?

I heard our President’s response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. I heard his words. I saw him wiping a tear from the corner of his eye. I saw what he was trying to convey. I heard him say that he felt like any other parent in this nation about how sad it was that these 20 children were cut off before they had a chance to begin to live.

But I couldn’t help thinking about his callous feelings toward a baby that survives an abortion. I remember hearing him say that a baby in that situation should not be helped in any way. Nobody should be allowed to attempt to save the baby’s life or even hold or comfort the child as s/he is dying.

If you don’t know about this side of the man, research the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act and his actions as a senator in Illinois. You can start here. This Act is now federal law making it illegal to kill a baby that is born alive during an attempted abortion. But Senator Obama voted against this bill in the Illinois legislature even AFTER it passed unanimously at the federal level. He wants it to be legal to KILL a baby after it has been born alive.

Can a man who believes such a thing really feel the pain that a normal parent feels when a child dies? I question it.

Miracle at the Gym

Patrick, our third child, was born with arthrogryposis. He couldn’t bend his elbows. Fibrous tissue had grown over his elbow joints. He had not bent his arms or moved them much in the womb.

He also had a club foot. The Achilles tendon was really tight so he couldn’t bend his foot up and down.

The first pediatrician I took him to was concerned that he may never be able to walk or stand or feed himself or groom himself or just about anything.

I took him to therapy, and the therapist was not very supportive. She didn’t want my other 2 kids to come to therapy sessions, and she tried to get me to stop nursing him and wanted me to start feeding him solid food before I thought he was ready for it. There were many things that I did not like about taking him to therapy all the time.

We kept praying for his healing from the time he was born. One night I got a word from the Lord through Benny Hinn that “Patrick is going to be fine”. Soon after that the therapist said that she thought he had plateaued and that he wasn’t going to get much more range of motion than he had.

I was fine with that because it meant we could have our lives back. I never took him back for therapy after that. We had 2 surgeries on his club foot when he was less than a year old.

Later we had to get another surgery on his foot because it had started to turn in when he was about 5 years old.

The first surgeries would have taken care of the problem but the arthrogryposis caused his Achilles tendon to be stiffer than it should be, and it caused trouble in the alignment of the bones in his foot.

So we had those medical interventions for him when he was young.

But ever since then he’s just been growing and developing with the Lord’s blessing on his health and His healing touch ever present.

He walks and runs just fine and always has!

The doctors who saw him as a baby would be shocked if they saw him doing this.

He is lifting 205 lbs. here.

He put up 205 lbs. eight times. Shawn was amazed. Then he went and lifted 205, too! He was inspired by Patrick to do more than he thought he could do.

He can do amazing things with his legs, too. He does kicks and lots of martial arts moves that require strong legs.

The next time Gary was home, he videotaped Patrick benching, and he benched 225 lbs!

Stay tuned. More to come!

40 Days for Life – 65 Babies Saved So Far!

Mondays are the best days during the 40 Days for Life
campaigns, because that’s the day we share stories
about mothers who’ve changed their minds on the
sidewalks outside the abortion centers.

In just these first few days, there have already been …

… 65 babies saved — that we know of.

Praise God!!!

Here are the stories of three of those babies.

One of the prayer volunteers noticed a man she
recognized … sitting in a car in the Planned
Parenthood parking lot. With him was his 18-month-old
child. Naturally, the volunteer went over to talk.

It seems the man’s wife was inside — setting up an
appointment for an abortion. She just didn’t want
another baby.

“When he said he didn’t want the abortion,” said Libby
in Memphis, “we said he needed to protect his baby right
now. He called his wife, and few minutes later she came
out and told us she was not going to seek an abortion.”

The volunteers hugged her, and gave her a list of
Memphis-area pregnancy resources.

One of these prayer volunteers in Memphis was taking
part in 40 Days for Life for the first time ever.

“She just felt so strongly that she needed to
participate,” Libby said. And what a wonderful thing
she saw on that first day!

A young woman arrived at Planned Parenthood … and it
was obvious her pregnancy was well advanced. She was
frightened and didn’t know what else to do.

The director of a pro-life pregnancy center was able to
speak to her and learn more about her situation, though
there was a bit of a language barrier. It seems the
woman is from Central America, and the baby’s father
abandoned her when he found out she was pregnant.

“She was very happy after the director counseled her and
explained that she would have support and better choices,”
said Molly in Silver Spring.

“Planned Parenthood would have referred her to a
late-term abortionist in the area,” she said. “In
Maryland, abortions can happen throughout the entire
pregnancy. We need to keep her in our prayers.”

A young woman who arrived for an appointment in Beaumont
admitted to the people praying outside the abortion
facility that she had tossed and turned all night over
what she was about to do.

One of the volunteers was quick to hand her information
from a pro-life pregnancy care center. About this time,
the young woman’s friend, who had come to the appointment
with her, spoke up. The friend said she’d had an abortion
herself — and “didn’t feel it was a good idea.”

At that, the woman who had planned to abort her child
broke down in tears.

After a lengthy discussion with the counselors on the
sidewalk, the two young women were smiling — and
heading towards the pro-life resource center.

“We have her phone number and will be in touch,” said
Eileen in Beaumont. “She left with tears of joy,
rather than sorrow. Your prayers and sacrifices are
definitely at work!”

Today’s devotional is from Fr. Frank Pavone, national
director of Priests for Life.

Pray that those tempted to abort may understand that
their child is already present, and already a real

And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of
Mary that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth
was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said,
“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit
of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the
mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as
soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears,
the babe leaped in my womb for joy.”

— Luke 1:41-44

REFLECTION by Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

Jesus not only loves unborn children — He was one

Think about this for a moment.

We often hear people speak of a pregnant mother by
saying, “She’s expecting a child.”

Now if one is expecting a package, the package is not
yet there.

As reflected in our verse for today, however, this is
not the case with the mother.

Her gift is already there.

The pregnant woman, a mother already, does not have a
child “on the way,” but has a child, already present
and in full possession of his or her human rights,
starting with the right to life.

Jesus, open my eyes to your presence in the life of
every child. Open my heart to joy in the birth of
every child, a birth that reflects the joy of your own
birth in Bethlehem.

As you shared life in the womb of Mary, so now send
your protection upon every child still in the womb,
and grant to their mothers the strength and joy that
comes from welcoming the gift of life. We pray through
Christ our Lord, Amen.

God Triumphs!

This is an email that I received from Shawn Carney of 40 Days for Life.

The Fall Campaign has started.

This is Day 2.

Pray for 40 Days for Life and get involved if you can.

I have to say that the ENTHUSIASM I’m seeing and
hearing is really uplifting — and also humbling.

The dedication and prayers of so many — like you —
have made this the largest 40 Days for Life campaign
ever … and prayer always sustain us through
adversity. Here are a few examples.

The people who arrived for the 40 Days for Life kickoff
event outside the abortion center in Fayetteville got
a bit of a surprise — a brand-new sprinkler system,
with the sprinkler heads pointed directly at the prayer

“The owner of the business complex turned the sprinklers
on as soon as we set up all our equipment,” said Tiffany
in Fayetteville. “And they kept the sprinklers on for
two hours.”

One co-owner spent the entire two hours “pacing and
walking up and down the parking lot, yelling at us and
telling the police to arrest us,” she said. “Needless
to say, the police officers were polite and explained
they could not arrest us.”

The prayer volunteers were then greeted with loud,
obscene music from inside the building. “We sang and
played worship music and lifted our voices to God,”
Tiffany explained. “Our God songs drowned out the
vulgar music.”

Through it all, the prayer volunteers refused to be
discouraged. “The bottom line — God triumphed,” she
said. “Praise the Lord!”

Bright and early on Day 1, a young woman stopped by
the 40 Days for Life vigil site in Toccoa and gave
Mary a great big hug.

“Please know that people are noticing what you are
doing,” the woman said. With tears in her eyes, she
showed Mary a picture of her son.

This young mom said she had been on her way to have
an abortion when her car broke down. She had to use
the money she had saved up for an abortion to get
her car fixed. Soon after, she decided to keep her
baby — and now was so very happy with her choice.

“She also agreed to stop back and sign up to join our
campaign,” said Mary. “We are looking forward to
seeing her again, and hope to be able to send more
stories like this.”

About 75 people came out for the 40 Days for Life
kickoff in Las Vegas. “The sun was hot,” said Linda,
one of the local leaders, “but many were willing to
brave the heat … in support of the dignity of human

The event began with music — and the sound of the
shofar, the traditional ram’s horn. “Pastor Wally
Smith of House of Israel Fellowship proclaimed a
Bible passage and called us to bravely fight the
evil of abortion that occurs here in our city nearly
every day,” said Linda.

“Let’s stand ready to storm heaven with prayer,” she
said, “and then humbly await God’s will.”

Here’s today’s devotional from Fr. Frank Pavone,
national director of Priests for Life…

Pray for those who work in the abortion industry, and
for those who have repented of committing abortions
and have resolved to defend life.

Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into
your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said
this, he breathed his last. The centurion, seeing
what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this
was a righteous man.”

— Luke 23:46-47

REFLECTION by Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

“Those of us who have participated in the killing of
unborn children are the Centurions of today. We have
dropped our swords against the unborn child. Now we
must recognize the depth of our guilt and deal with
the ramifications… To revitalize our humanity we
need to forgive and be forgiven, to reconcile and be

These words come from a brochure of the Society of
Centurions, an organization for former abortion
providers. These words convey in a beautiful and
moving way what is happening across the nation as
hundreds of abortionists and their staff members
experience repentance, conversion, and healing.

How does this conversion begin? Dr. Philip Ney
writes, “The factors that changed their opinion on
performing abortions, in the following order of
frequency, were: evidence of the infant’s humanity, a
spiritual experience, personal distress, evidence of
the mother’s distress, scientific articles, being
accepted as a person, a personal relationship with a
pro-lifer, pro-life pickets.” (The Centurion’s
Pathway, p. 77).

The journey is not easy. But the Jesus who heals us
calls us to face the truth of what we’ve done, make
restitution where possible, and engage in the hard
work of mending relationships. Let’s pray for the
Centurions; may their numbers increase!

Lord, we thank you for those who have repented of
committing abortions and have resolved to defend
life. We too repent and resolve.

We repent of every instance in which fear has made us
silent when we should have spoken. We repent of the
ongoing bloodshed in our land, and for thinking that
we can deprive the unborn of protection but keep it
for ourselves.

We resolve that we will advance the cause of
righteous candidates for public office, and that we
will be more afraid of offending you by our silence
than of offending others by our speech. We resolve
that we will proclaim your name to the nations,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

40 Days for Life Fall Campaign and Praise Report

The fall 40 Days for Life begins one week from today,
and it’s going to shatter all records!

From next Wednesday, September 28, through November 6,
40-day campaigns of prayer and fasting, constant vigil
and community outreach will be held in …

… 301 cities …

… all across the United States (48 states plus the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico) plus Canada,
England, Spain, Australia, Argentina and Germany.

Four dozen of these locations are launching their
FIRST-EVER 40 Days for Life campaigns.

And, as we all prepare to pray and fast, stand vigil
and conduct grassroots outreach together, there is
BREAKING NEWS that shows — with God’s abundant grace
and blessings — what could happen in YOUR community.

Since the last 40 Days for Life campaign ended, two
more abortion centers where 40 Days for Life vigils
have been conducted have shut their doors and CLOSED!

In PENSACOLA, FLORIDA, volunteers arriving to pray at
the abortion center found a sheriff’s notice on the
front door of the facility. Legal proceedings had
begun against the abortion business, and a judge
ordered the center CLOSED.

In FOREST GROVE, OREGON, the local 40 Days for Life
team confirmed that the owner of the abortion center
had CLOSED this facility — and one of his other
locations as well. Volunteers told me the signs are
down, the building is empty — and a phone call
confirmed the permanent closure.

This makes SIXTEEN abortion centers where 40 Days
for Life vigils have occurred that have SHUT DOWN.

To God be the glory!

If you’ve not taken part in 40 Days for Life before,
I hope this shows you what can happen when you put
your trust in God and step forward in faith.
